Foundation

The University of Bradford received its Royal Charter in 1966 but its origins date back to the 1860s.

Today the University has around 6,300 full-time undergraduates and around 800 full-time postgraduates. Overall the University has a close-knit, friendly atmosphere, enabling students to get to know each other quickly.

The University has almost 140 degree courses at undergraduate level and around 80 at postgraduate level. These are spread across the 7 Academic Schools of Archaeological and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Health Studies, Informatics, Life Sciences, Management, and Social and International Studies. Part-time and short courses are available through the University's School of Lifelong Education and Development.

The University of Bradford has a reputation for making students from other countries feel welcome. Overseas students currently make up 11% of our total undergraduate population, with half of those coming from outside the EU, studying courses across all the University's departments. The presence of so many students from so many different countries and culture s helps create a stimulating environment for everyone in the University.

History

The City of Bradford is a surprising place. If you take a minute, you'll see a city that is vibrant, historic, forward facing, cultural and green. A 10 minute drive or train journey will take you into the beautiful countryside and into popular tourist places such as Saltaire and Haworth.

Bradford is a great place to live and study. Although it is one of the ten largest cities in Britain, it is small enough to be friendly, compact enough to be easily manageable, and yet large enough to have all the facilities of a thriving, modern city.

The social scene in Bradford has taken off in a big way over the past year or two. There has never been a shortage of pubs and clubs for the beer thirsty student but there are now more reasons than ever to venture down the hill and into the City Centre.
