Broxtowe College is located to the west of the city. It began its life
in 1949 as Beeston County College, changing its name in 1983 to reflect
its situation in the Borough of Broxtowe.
Broxtowe College is open to the whole community; to all age groups and
ability levels
Today's students can choose from a huge range of courses to prepare
themselves for work and/or university. The more traditional qualifications
like GCSEs and A-Levels are well known to students and parents, but the
new courses such as NVQs and GNVQs are relatively new and need some
explaining.
NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications)
Are related to work and show how well you can do your job. As such, they
reflect the true needs of employers. GNVQs (General National Vocational
Qualifications) are known as 'alternative A-Levels' because they are
work-based but still provide the admission qualifications needed for
university.
There are three levels of GNVQ, all of which include Key Skills
modules, and they are made up through a unit system. GNVQs provide
students with the chance to learn the way they like to learn, offering a
vocational qualification which can also be used for university entrance.

Courses Offering Academic Progress

a multitude of reasons. It may be that you need A-Levels for university,
or to re-sit failed GCSEs. Many mature students return to academic study
purely to prove something to themselves. Others still harbour university

Our Programmes
for Students with Additional Needs offers students an enormous range
of support. Courses are staffed by experienced lecturers with learning
support assistants constantly available. Courses are taught in single
storey buildings with good access. College counsellors and Student
Services are available to help at any time. This support structure
provides students with opportunities to grow in a comfortable
environment, and many will go on to mainstream college courses as a

Prima Training Enterprises
Prima
Training Enterprises was established in 1993. Prima's aim is to
support both young people and adults in training and employment, and
its excellent connections (80% of trainees are on placement with local
firms) have helped Prima establish an excellent reputation. All the
courses listed below are available throughout the year, and trainees
can start at any time. New trainees will be joining Prima at an
exciting point in their history; Broxtowe College is currently
developing the Meadows Community Education Centre in which Prima is
housed, bringing even better facilities for trainees, including a
massive investment in computing. |
