Foundation
The
university of Liverpool, which is one of the oldest civil universities in
the UK, was established in 1881. The standard of research within the
University of Liverpool is reflected in the results of the 2001 Research
Assessment Exercise (RAE). In this, 38 of the 43 subject areas submitted
for assessment received a score of 4, 5 or 5* (out of a possible 5*).
The
university can offer more than 200 undergraduate programmes in over 100
subject areas, from established degrees in “the professions” (e.g. law,
engineering, medicine, dentistry) to modern programmes in new fields of
study (e.g. e-business). This is in addition to wide range of postgraduate
programmes, both taught and research.
The
School of Tropical Medicine, one of just two specialized centers in the
UK, is the oldest in the world, founded in 1899, and the Schools of
Architecture and Veterinary Science were the very first to be opened in
the UK. Liverpool’s innovation and diversity are just as strong today; in
September 2002 we launched our £10million Management School, and
construction is nearly complete of a new £23 million Biosciences Center,
housing the School of Biological Sciences.
History
Liverpool
is famous worldwide for its richness in sport and music. It has two
English Premiership football teams, Liverpool and Everton, and is the home
of the Beatles, big-name club DJs and the Liverpool Philharmonic
Orchestra.
At the
University of Liverpool, you can take part in sport, music, which you are
interested in, and more to occupy you when you aren't studying
The
quality of teaching is assessed by visits to individual university
departments. 27 departments were assessed and 17 awarded an “Excellent”
score (a score of 22/24 or more), a further five only missing being
classed as “Excellent” by one point. International students can be sure
that whatever programme they choose, they will be taught by staff who are
experts in their field and who have a genuine commitment to education.
Location
The
University campus, known as The Precinct, is located in the center of
Liverpool. The city center with its shops, bars and restaurants is just 10
minutes’ walk away. The historic waterfront, the Albert Dock and many of
the city’s major museums and galleries are also within walking distance.
Liverpool is only one hour away from Manchester International Airport,
has its own airport with European connections, and an excellent rail and
bus network to destinations across the U.K.
